Black Swan

7/10

Da, sto procentov.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_milashka/ 2011-01-13 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
ооо, Requiem! LOVE that movie!

[identity profile] alinaf.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Then you probably loved Black Swan :) I wasn't a fan of Requiem at all, but I think it should be shown to all high school juniors/seniors in health class with a big sign "kids don't do drugs". :)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_milashka/ 2011-01-13 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
But you see, that movie wasn't playing on the gross emotions until the end. There were some hard moments in it, but most of the movie was just amazing. I think it was a lot deeper than Black Swan. Black swan was much more of a suspense movie than Requiem, which was more of a reality-meets-fantasy drama with a romantic element :)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_milashka/ 2011-01-13 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
And no, I can't say I liked Black Swan that much. I didn't dislike it, but I also didn't like it. It wasn't "meh", but all the creepy and gross moments turned me off. I think I would have liked it a lot more if it stopped at the psychological aspects and not gone for the gory cheap thrills. Like, did we need to see the nail file incident? Did it have to be the face? How about the whole peeling of the skin in the beginning. I could have done without it and I think the movie would not have suffered from the lack of these moments.

[identity profile] alinaf.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally agree with you here. By the nail file incident I already resigned to thinking "meh, another one of these..."

[identity profile] alinaf.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought Requiem was all about "drugs are bad for you in many different ways". Yes, it had some very touching parts. But all the romantic, soft stuff was done to drive the drug point down.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_milashka/ 2011-01-13 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it was about how drugs are bad for you. About how it may start out as a fantasy and then harsh reality sets in. That's what I meant above. But it was powerful because it sent that message loud and clear. Black Swan had a message, but I think it got lost in the whole "what happened and what was her schizophrenic vision?" aspect of it.

[identity profile] alinaf.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree, Requiem hit you over the head with the message, and Swan was more subtle. I can do subtle. True, at some point you stop realizing what was real and what was her sick visions, but it doesn't really matter! It doesn't matter whether she really dies at the end, it's not really part of the message. The message is that often good, talented people get so caught up in the ratrace, that they lose everything, they lose themselves. Big sports, big arts, big anything career-wise - they all suck like that.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_milashka/ 2011-01-13 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I agree. But I think that message could have been more powerful without the cheap thrills. Plus, the pressure didn't just come from the "big arts" aspect. Her mother, now there was a psycho worthy of a padded room of her own. I mean, this kid was already quite insane before there was ever the pressure of a BIG part. So what was the director really trying to say? Was everyone in the ballet troupe crazy because they were part of the big arts, or was it just the ones that wanted to be stars? Beth, Nina, her mother? And if Nina didn't grow up with such a controlling mother, would she have been better off when she made it big? Was Beth also crazy to begin with?

[identity profile] alinaf.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Her mother was one of the most interesting characters. She was living vicariously through Nina (after all, she gave up her own career to have her!), she was ridiculously controlling, like you said, but she was also insanely jealous of her, of her youth and success. The message was that ambitions and strive for success, taken to an extreme, corrupt and drive you bonkers. :) I think Beth went nuts all on her own, after she realized there won't be any glory and fame in her life anymore. If Nina's mom was different, perhaps Nina would have been better off. But chances are she wouldn't have made it big. Yet another twist on the "Chinese mom" discussion!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_milashka/ 2011-01-13 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
:))
Yes, you're right in her analysis of Nina's mom.

Anyway, this all makes me think of my great-grandfather who was adamantly against me going into theater, though my parents had thought about it when they realized I had vocal and artistic abilities. He worked in theater and conservatory for many years and he said that they're just eat me alive there.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_milashka/ 2011-01-13 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I meant "did that really happen or was it just her schizophrenic vision"?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_milashka/ 2011-01-13 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, as I mentioned on facebook, there's a large gross factor in the movie.

[identity profile] yelya.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Вот полностью согласна.:)

Написано весело, но к фильму имеет весьма отдаленное отношение.
